I'm currently using a QHD monitor (so I can't speak from experience about 4K or higher). 16 gigs with the new CPU was fine), but I noticed that Lightroom will happily consume the extra amount. I switched from 16/2400 to 32/3600 RAM and I haven't seen so much of a change from that (i.e. I recently upgraded from an older Core i7 (5820K) to a Ryzen 9 5900X (while keeping most of the other components, especially the GPU - a GTX 1080) and there's been a noticeable speed boost not night and day, but still perceivable. I think the CPU plays a much bigger role than the GPU. I'd like to hear other's experience with different cards and what you guys would suggest. If someone isn't exactly pushing Lightroom as hard as it can go (no 8k+ photos, no big megapixelgigapixel panoramas, etc), is a mid-range card just fine as long as it has a good processor and 16-32gb ram? Is a mid-range card like the 1650 super overkill for family photos, or just enough? Graphics cards are very expensive right now so I don't want to buy something more powerful than necessary, but also don't want to under-buy and have to replace it immediately.

I know Puget Systems seems to suggest expensive ones. Some people suggest buying the most expensive available gaming graphics cards, others say you can use a $150 card.

Reading online has gotten me many, many mixed messages about how Lightroom Classic uses the GPU. I'm building a computer for a family member who uses Lightroom Classic to edit "average" resolution photos, definitely at or below 4k, stuff like wedding photos, family pictures, etc. Please direct non-lightroom topics to the most appropriate of the following!
